Inspire ART Launched!

Inspire Art was created as a global call to all artists, thinkers, talkers, dreamers and anyone who want to use their talents to fight for human rights. Together, we can bring visibility to issues that are so pervasive it affects every aspect of our lives. These days it is so hard for people to look. We are all inundated with the everyday aspects of life that are already challenging, so to look at another sad topic is almost unbearable. The media, politics, war, hunger, suffering, the list just goes on. I thought, there is any way we can combine the strength that intrinsically exists in music and art, help artists get visibility for their work, combining topics that need attention desperately, and try to do some good in this world.

To launch Inspire Art, I have created 512 paintings individual 8×10 paintings. Each painting is meant to symbolize one individual that was rescued from a life of forced labor and prostitution just last July from a brick kiln in India. These paintings have been divided into two sets (Set A and Set B). One is called ‘The Rose’ and one is ‘The Butterfly Effect’. The idea is, give a rose and allow it to ripple forward and Inspire someone else. What sometimes seems obvious to us, is not always obvious to others. By thinking of others, we enrich ourselves. By sharing art and music, we create higher consciousness. You just never know how your presence or actions will affect another human being. This movement is about giving, inspiring, and allowing yourself to realize that we are not only unique individuals, but we are an interdependent live experiment that is in dire need of color, music, and benevolence. Change happens because people make it happen, and everyone deserves a chance at life. Be Inspired.

I get tired just like you. I am scared for the future just like you. I have to make choices just like you. Your very presence, enriches my existence more than you will ever know.

The Woodstock Film Festival is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to present an annual program and year-round schedule of film, music, and art-related activities that promotes artists, culture, inspired learning, and diversity. This year it will be taking place from October 10 through 14th, in various Hudson Valley locations.

Half of the proceeds from the evening will go towards the MARK Project, an organization dedicated to providing housing programs, economic development, and technical assistance services to the Towns of Andes, Middletown and Roxbury and the Villages of Fleischmanns and Margaretville. In addition to plentiful art and photography, images taken right after the devastation of Hurricane Irene by Heyrick Chasse will be on display during this event.

I got this letter and I asked Sri if I could post it here. Sri is from Nepal. He contacted me through Facebook. He asked me to correct the grammar slightly so it would be clear. The content is exactly the same.

“Dear Sarah,

Would you please drop this message to the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) at Newyork? Your little contribution will save life of thousands of women being victim of dowry each year in Nepal, specially of those living in Terai region. This year about 90 girls sacrificed their life and many of them lost their parents because of dowry.

Dowry has been a social evil since our ancestors inour society and each year it takes lives of many girls. Because of this concept of dowry, girls are compelled to commit various dangerous events such as taking poison, suicide by rope, spreading kerosene over the body to burn themselves, and using knives and other equipment to end their lives. The women are dominated by the men and behave in a bad manner. Men take females as material to rub the thirst of sex and their womb as a machine for the production of baby. Girls after marriage are given severe pain by men. Parents of females in this culture are pressured to collect and and save dowry, instead of educating them. Parents spend their whole life in tension being harassed.

No government of Nepal, Ngo’s or INGO’S are helping us solve and eradicate this problem. It must be done at a grassroots level. Governments are only interested political gain. In Nepal, due to political instability and deep corruption, no any plan has been successful. All the budget and financial help from assisting countries like America and UN has gone in vain because of corrupted politicians and weak government policy. Government hasn’t cared about this evil problem yet seriously and hasn’t shown any intenson to eradicate it from deep rooted traditions in our society. Due to bad government, lack of strict rules and regulations to be action upon those illegal activities even NGO’S and INGO’S have failed to implement any program successfully. They have shown many false report and corrupted more than 50% of projected budget. So now it has become intolerable to me and I want to eradicate this problem immediately as soon as possible. This is possible only when I will get support from UN.

Therefore Sarah, I heartily request you please contribute your little efforts to share this letter and save the lives of thousands women being victimized by the burden of dowry each year, who are leading lives with no mercy in Nepal. I would be very grateful to you if in anyway you could also drop this message in right hand i.e. To the honest staff of the headquarter of United Nations in New york. If possible, please drop in the hand of secretary general of UN Ban ki- moon. I hope you will surely contribute your efforts to relief women from chronic pain of dowry.

So if google makes billions off of artists as well by sharing all this content free of permission, they have the right to exist of course, but shouldn’t they pay royalties to artists as well? Do people just want free stuff? Is it really that simple?

On February 2nd, near Woodstock, I will be performing in an intimate setting with a real piano and a tall raging fire at the Emerson.
I will be selling a limited amount of paintings, music and other items there to raise money for the cause of Inspire.

Also, in March, I will be playing every Tuesday at BSP in Kingston, NY. This is a wonderful new venue for discovering new music.
