The last fire of winter

Just a few minutes ago, I began to tear a paper bag to build the last fire of winter. I go to a drawer to look for matches. There is a note crumpled up in the corner of the drawer, underneath the mess. I look at it pondering how it got there, certain that I was not the culprit. I un-crinkled it. It must have been sitting there for years. It read:

You make me so happy.

Remembering the mirrors

Somehow while I twist, spatter and glitter each object, I remember the faces of the children climbing around the first Sparkle Park. I remember watching a little girl systematically take all the solar lights out of the ground one at a time, and lay them down gently on the grass- certain that was her job. I laughed and it started to rain. The mirrors shook, and the little girl spread out her arms and tilted her face toward the falling drops. Her whole body leaned back and she was completely there. She was so much there, that she couldn’t even pay attention because she would have to think in order to do that. I remember this glowing beauty, and she lives in my mind as a reminder of how to wake up, and why we are doing all of this. Isn’t that something?

I am thinking of a time when I was a child and I woke up hearing the yells of strangers outside the window. I smelled smoke and just knew immediately something was very wrong. I felt a sense of intense fear come over me, and just as I grabbed my best friend’s hand to go downstairs, my father came into the room and sternly told us to leave immediately and not look back. I grabbed my friend, and I dropped my pink doll, and I remember her blue eyes on the ground, but there was no time to go back. As we got outside the door, and I saw my father swiftly walking away from the house holding a little boy in his robe. Within minutes the fire engulfed the entire row of houses, and with a gusty wind, everything was gone. Thankfully, no one was killed to my knowledge.

The trucks showed up quickly with blaring sirens, and they ran out so fast I could barely see what they were doing. I felt better immediately. As I stood in my night shirt shocked, but comforted by the snow, I was told two men had left a friend of theirs drunk in front of a wood stove, and he had passed out. After they left, a log rolled out and started to burn. I was also told if two strangers passing by hadn’t seen the fire begin, and made all that noise, we would have surely perished.

What’s the moral of this story? Pay attention and hug a firefighter whenever possible. ♥

I am so excited about this 3 day this sparkling event filled with music, art, and humanity. I feel extremely hopeful and honored that such amazing people are lending their talents to this unique artistic collaboration. The snow falls outside. I’m smiling and looking forward to the future.

Snow

I am watching the snow fall slow thinking, ‘if I had a bible it would be the ABC of Relativity by Bertrand Russell.’ It’s almost time to bring the mirrors down, and do much work to make the Sparkle Park live again. I am consumed with this Emerald city called Powered by Dreaming and the notion that people can come together and create something beyond unreal. In the middle I am working a lot with David in the studio on a new song, that I hope will ignite people from the inside to inspire each other. I wish so much that I had milk for the coffee, but right now, it’s best to forget that and turn bricks yellow.
